An Ilorin housewife, Kafayat Ajoke, has filed for divorce from her husband, Aminullahi Ibrahim, citing his inability to provide food for his family.
She who appeared before a Kwara state court sitting in Ilorin on Friday, begged the presiding judge to grant her request and also sought custody of their two children.
The petitioner said that in addition to the end of their marriage, she wants Mr Ibrahim to pay N100,000 monthly as maintenance and feeding allowance.
Kafayat said; “I noticed that my husband changed after he lost his job one year ago. He does not provide enough money for food for the family”.
In his response, the husband agreed to the divorce application, but claimed he could only afford to give his wife N2,000 monthly for the maintenance and feeding since he is unemployed.
“I don’t have a job, so I don’t have money. This is the main reason my wife wants a divorce,” Mr Ibrahim told the court.
The presiding judge, Idris Etsu, after listening to their separate arguments, adjourned the case until July 30 for judgment.
