A mass burial was organized for victims of the recent herdsmen attack on communities in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

Recall that Fulani herdsmen killed not less than 19 person on Monday after they launched attacks Tse Amgbem, Udam near Aondoana, and Agbanu Seghev/Ukuse, all in Gwer West. Attackers stormed the community in the early hours of Monday, May 3, burnt many houses and left many others with severe injuries.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area, Grace Igbabon spoke about the casualty figure during an interview with Channels TV. Meanwhile, the residents who were able to flee from the attack have been displaced and seeking refuge in the nearby community, Aondoana town.

On Thursday, May 6, Hon. Mrs Ashi Grace Igbabon organized the mass burial of the victims. The first batch of the burial occurred at Mbamondu, Vengev community, the ancestral home of the victims.

The council boss revealed that arrangements have been made for the second and third mass burials to allow her to bury other slain victims in Saghev, Mbakyondu, and other affected communities in the local government.

In the photos displayed below, five white caskets were seen at the cemetery with the presence of a large crowd.

Benue State remains one of the state which continues to suffer rampant attacks from bandits and Fulani herdsmen.
