A professor with the Department of Medical Microbiology, University of Jos, Grace Ayanbimpe and her husband have been abducted by suspected gunmen.

According to reports, the UNIJOS professor and her husband were abducted by the gunmen who attacked their Haske Quarters residence in Lamingo in Jos North Local Government Area of the state. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 17.

Philip Dachung, an indigene of the community told the Punch that the couple can’t be reached or found. He said;

“The kidnappers came to their house around 2 am. They broke into their apartment and shot into the air. Neighbors who were terrified by sounds of gunshots could not come out for the fear of being hit by stray bullets. So, this morning, we discovered that the gunmen had taken the professor and her husband away. We don’t where they are right now.” he said.

A staff of the University of Jos, who also confirmed the incident, said,

“This morning, we got information that Prof Grace Ayanbimpe of Department of Medical Microbiology was abducted from their residence along with her husband. Please, pray for their safe and quick release from their abductors. May we also see the end of insecurity in our country.”

Barely a year ago, some gunmen stormed Plateau College and in the process kidnapping one female student of the University of Jos.

The student identified as Helen was said to be a level 300 student studying Zoology.

Narrating what happened, an eyewitness said the student together with other members of her family were preparing to bed when these unknown gunmen stormed their house at the staff quarters.

Thankfully, she was freed unharmed. Sources reported that she was brought home by her family after they picked her up around the Heipang community after the kidnappers abandoned her in the bush.
