On Tuesday, troops engaged in Operation Fasan Yanma effectively thwarted a bandit assault on the Gatawa community within the Sabon Birmi Local Government Area of Sokoto.
Hon. Aminu Boza, the representative for Sabon Birmi 1 in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, noting that the attack occurred in the morning hours.
Later that evening, Boza shared preliminary reports suggesting that the bandits, believed to be affiliated with the notorious Bello Turji camp, sustained significant losses during the confrontation.
“Yes, the troops successfully repelled the assault on Gatawa, but I am currently facing network issues that prevent me from obtaining further details,” he stated. “I will provide more information as soon as it becomes available. Initial reports indicate that our troops mounted a formidable response today.”
In a related note, a senior official from the 8 Division Army headquarters in Sokoto, who wished to remain anonymous, remarked that such operations are routine for the division’s troops.
Boza also reflected on past incidents, recalling that approximately three months prior, bandits had abducted and later killed the District Head of Gatawa, Isa Muhammad Bawa, after two weeks in captivity.
