Budding Afrobeats singer, Seyi Vibez has recounted how he fell victim to fraud while attempting to get signed to Grammy winning artiste, Wizkid’s record label, at 13.
The sensational musician recalled Googling ‘how to join Starboy Entertainment’ during the early days of his career, and he saw a phone number.
Seyi said he called the number and the person he spoke to asked him to pay N10,000 for the registration form. Trusting their assurances that he would be invited for a screening process and later perform for Wizkid, he sold his phone to pay for the form, but got blocked after the payment.
The ‘Cana’ hitmaker, who disclosed this during a recent interview with Wazobia FM, Lagos revealed that he had always dreamt of joining Starboy Entertainment, since he was a teenager.
The music star shared his experience as a cautionary tale those asking about joining his record label, Vibe Inc, as he stressed that interested artistes would not be asked to register online.
Seyi Vibez said; “I remember when I was 13 years old, I wanted to sign to Starboy, I went to Google and typed, ‘How to register to Starboy record label.’ I saw one number and I called the number, the guy who picked it said I should pay for form N10,000.
“That was how I sold my phone and paid the guy N10,000 but after the payment he blocked me. He told me that he was Wizkid’s recruitment officer. I said I would come for the screening, I would perform and Wizkid would judge my performance. So I fell for it.”
