Temilade Openiyi, the Nigerian singer known by her stage name, Tems, has revealed how Barbadian R&B superstar, Rihanna made her realise that she is successful.
The ‘Try Me’ crooner recalled getting a DM from the billionaire songstress and it was in that moment she came to the realisation that she was now a global celebrity.
Tems stated this while having a chat with popular YouTube content creator, Korty EO in a recent episode of her show ‘Flow With Korty’.
The host asked: “At what point did you realise that you’ve become successful?”
Tems replied: “I knew I’d blown and gone far when I got a DM from Rihanna.”
CorrectNG reports that Tems is one of the writers that worked on Rihanna’s Black Panther 2 soundtrack, ‘Lift Me Up’ last year.
Meanwhile, in another news…
The Nigerian singer once revealed that when she crossed paths with Rihanna’s at the Sav@ge x Fenty show in Los Angeles in 2021, the Don’t Stop The Music crooner advised her to stop being so humble.
Tems told GQ Magazine; “I just have this chill thing going on. She was like, ‘You need to be that bitch you know you are’.”
Since breaking into the scene with her Billboard-charting 2020 collab, ‘Essence’ with Wizkid, Grammy-nominated 28-year-old has risen from strength to strength.
However, despite recognitions from Barack Obama, Adeke and SZA, the popular singer said accolades don’t mean everything to her:
“Yes, these things add up to my career. But they’re not the core of my story,” Tems was quoted as saying.
