President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian have died in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province.
The tragic helicopter crash took place on the 19th of May after which search rescue and emergency services failed to locate the accident site due to heavy fog.
Iranian state television reported other victims including the Governor of Eastern Azerbaijan, Imam Mohammad Ali Alehashem of Tabriz, the pilot, copilot, crew chief, and the Head of Security.
President Raisi, known for his conservative stance and significant role in Iran’s judiciary, had been leading efforts to strengthen the economy and regional influence.
First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber is expected to assume presidential responsibilities. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
