Oba Ayangburen and the Bee Returns in 2024 with Over 2000 Pupils Competing Across Lagos State

Oba Ayangburen and the Bee Returns in 2024 with Over 2000 Pupils Competing Across Lagos State—The highly anticipated Oba Ayangburen and the Bee 2024 returns, promising to be a transformative educational experience for primary school pupils across Lagos State.

Since its inception in 2022, this prestigious spelling competition has been helping young students sharpen their language skills in a dynamic, engaging setting. The 2024 edition has drawn a record number of registrations with over 2,000 participants from both private and public primary schools across 12 Local Government Areas.

The competition will unfold over four stages: dictation, oral contest, semi-finals, and the grand finale, to be held at Ikorodu Town Ultramodern Hall on November 27, 2024.

According to Project Coordinator, Miss Taiwo Otesanya, the initiative has seen significant growth with this year’s participation boosted by a collaboration with the Association for Formidable Educational Development (AFED), bringing 250 private schools onboard.

“Oba Ayangburen and the Bee is set to become the biggest spelling bee contest in Africa, positioning Nigerian primary schools as a breeding ground for academic excellence,” said Otesanya.

In addition to the intense spelling challenge, this year marks the introduction of the Oba Ayangburen and the Bee Advocates of Education Awards, designed to celebrate individuals and organisations committed to advancing education in Lagos. The awards will select two honorees from each of the five geopolitical zones of Lagos, leading to a total of 10 awardees.

As the event progresses through its stages, community and corporate support continue to build, with confirmed support from BIC, Colgate, Kingsfield Schools, and other key stakeholders. “We are also in talks with brands like Justrite Supermarkets and Lagos State House of Assembly,” noted Project Initiator Mr. Temidayo Phillips.
