Nigerian author, Reno Omokri has advised social media users against addressing people who are older than them by their first upon their first meeting.
According to Reno, no matter how ‘woke’ you are, it is never a good thing to address older people by their first name.
The former Nigerian presidential aide made this known in a recent post he made on his verified social media handle on the popular social media platform, Twitter.
..... he made reads;
“Never call anyone who is older than you by their first names upon first meeting them, no matter how ‘woke’ you are. Wait for them to give you that privilege. If they dont give it yo you, dont presumptuously take it. Good manners open doors that good looks cant open.”
His followers also shared their thoughts and some of these reactions are;
@ClassikBoo – I prefer to address them as “ma’am” or “sir” first ..
Even after them giving me the privilege.
Where I work, I address my DON as “Ma’am”…
I’ve not gotten used to calling them by their names and they are fine with it.
@Fpl3rd – Reno, you too get sense but stop blocking people that disagreed with you. We all have different points of view towards everything in life. #IComeInPeace
@banky_yanky – Na the manners put us where we are today. If we don’t have manners this country would have been better, cause everybody go respect themselves. How I wish I lack manners I would have slap @MBuhari
@Uzoma80158022 – Normally na ma or sir, irrespective of how tush you want to be.
