The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, has debunked reports that superstar singer, Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu, covered all the medical bills for patients at the hospital.
It was reported days ago that Burna Boy paid a surprise visit to the health facility in Port Harcourt and settled the outstanding bills of everyone on admission.
But in a statement by the institution’s spokesperson, Elabha Meni on Friday, June 21. UPTH clarified that the music star only settled the bills of selected patients at the facility.
Meni said the hospital did not receive direct payments from Burna’s team, however, he lauded the musician’s kind and charitable act in helping those in need in society.
“We commend Burna Boy’s kindness in financially assisting select patients in our hospital to offset their bills during his visit on June 11.
“However, contrary to reports stating that all patients’ bills in UPTH were paid during the visit, only selected patients received cash gifts or donations.
“The hospital did not receive direct payments from the musician and his team on behalf of patients to support this worthy course of reducing healthcare costs,” the spokesperson said.
Burna Boy’s kind gesture moved social media users to emotions and they praised him coming to the aid of the medically challenged.
