Man attacks his wife’s lawyer in Lagos court

A 60-year-old man identified as Ogungbe Emmanuel, has been arrested for assaulting his wife’s lawyer in court amid a family matter.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and breach of public peace before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state on Wednesday.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Kolade Tedunjaye, explained that Ogungbe committed the offence on May 15 in the premises of the Chief Magistrate Court Ebute Metta West.

Tedunjaye he told the court that Ogungbe attacked Alowonle Yetunde, who represented his wife in a complicated family matter that involved himself.

He submitted that in the course of rendering her professional services, Ogungbe pounced on the counsel and inflicted serious injury on her.

Tedunjaye said the offence violates sections 168 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Ogungbe, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate O.O. Ikobayo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.

She ordered Ogungbe to submit his international passport and held that one of the sureties must have a landed property. The matter was adjourned until June 7.
