I’m not bothered – Actress Nancy Isime speaks amid hijab controversy

Popular Nigerian actress and media personality, Nancy Isime, has broken silence amid calls for the ban of her yet-to-be-released movie over use of Niqab.

Recall that earlier this week, Isime faced heavy backlash after releasing promotional images of a film titled ‘Blood Brothers’ wherein she and her co-stars wore Niqab (Hijab) and were acting as armed robbers.

In reaction, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) called on the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) to ban the controversial film, saying it depicts Muslim women as criminals.

MURIC Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola stated in part; “An extremely anti-Muslim film has been released into the Nigerian movie industry.

The upcoming film, which was recently unveiled by Nancy Isime, shows women in purdah brandishing dangerous weapons and robbing banks. It is Islamophobia taken to the highest level. This film is satanic, repugnant, and provocative.”

In what appeared to be a response to the criticisms, the actress, which took to her Instagram page, Isime and made it known that she is not bothered by anyone and emphasized her focus on personal goals.

Isime wrote on IG; “Really out of the way. In my own world. No drama or gossip. Just goals and money. Peace is where I’m at.

“I don’t bother nobody and I’m not bothered by nobody. To protect my peace, I stopped taking other people’s projected opinions personal.

“Reminder: Your light often highlights other people’s insecurities & shortcomings, which they will then project back to you as a flaw. It is a coping mechanism. Attacking you makes them feel safer.

“Isime baby, omo ologo 5g. The brightest light. The city on a hill that can never be hidden. Nancy Isime. Big name with big force. Getting talked about does not faze me. Look at the people who are talking.”
