Chief Executive Officer of Mavin Records, Michael Collins Ajereh aka Don Jazzy, has revealed that he doesn’t allow his artistes to release songs on the same day as superstar musicians, Wizkid or Asake.

The ace producer and executive disclosed this in a podcast interview with Fisayo Fosudo, explaining that artistes under his label releasing projects on the same day as the duo was suicidal.

Don Jazzy said that is the reason Mavin decided to move date for project roll outs from Friday, to Wednesdays or Thursday, because most artistes drop on that day.

Don Jazzy said: “We [Mavin] are moving from the traditional Friday release date to Wednesdays and Thursdays because there are no more Fridays [without another artiste dropping a song].

“If my artiste is to drop a song or project on a Friday and Wizkid or Asake is also releasing that day, I will move our release date because you don’t want to just die a natural death.”

Artistes signed to Mavin records are; Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Johnny Drille, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Lifesize Teddy, Bayanni and Rema, who is co-signed to D’Prince’s Jonzing Records.

The music executive stated this while being interviewed by Joey Akan on Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast. He also did a comparitive analysis of BNXN (formerly Buju) and Portable who both became big stars in 2021.

Don Baba J noted that at the time Portable hit the limelight with his breakout song, Zazuu Zeh, courtesy of Olamide, BNXN already had 7 songs on the charts but the controversial singer’s followers grew to a million faster.

He further explained that it is the fact he always does controversial or debatable things that puts him in the news which makes him to still be relevant even if he does not release songs.

The Mavin boss said when he’s having meetings with his team, he makes them it is not jut about dropping good music and relaxing. He said that he makes realise the algorithm will favour them if they put themselves out there and do things that will make their names come up in conversations like Portable does.
