I am frustrated, police don’t obey my orders – Kano governor

Governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has decried the attitude of the Police Command and officers in the state towards his instructions.

Yusuf claimed during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House, on Wednesday, that police personal are refusing to obey his orders as the State’s Chief Security Officer.

He said every security personnel deployed to Kano cooperate with him except the police force who tell him that they only obey ‘orders from above’.

The governor said; “All the security operatives in the state cooperate with me, except the police. Any time I give orders to the police, they refuse to take them, and would say they take orders from above.

“Imagine as the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer of this state, I cannot give orders to the police. This is frustrating and unfortunate”.

He also alleged that some disgruntled politicians were planning to hijack the impending nationwide protest in order to perpetrate mayhem in the state.

Yusuf said; “We have intelligence information that some disgruntled politicians from the opposition are plotting to hijack the impending nationwide protests in order to cause mayhem in Kano.

“They are planning to pose as members of our Kwankwasiyya movement to indulge in burning of buildings and looting of properties to make it look as if it is our supporters that are the ones perpetrating the acts”.

The Governor urged the youths partaking in the protests to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly, adding that he was ready to receive them at the Government House and collect their letter of grievances for onward transmission to the Federal Government.

“I will not run away. I will wait and receive them at the Government House to collect their demands and deliver same to the Federal Government, so long as they conduct themselves peacefully,” he said.
