A Nigerian man simply known as Max, has blamed his father losing the rare opportunity of him actualising his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
The young guy recounted via Twitter (X) how Pepsi Football Academy scouted him from his football team in Ojo many years ago, but his father chased away the recruiters.
Max also said that when his agent secured trials for him in Birmingham, England his father tore the documents into shreds and did other things that made him give up on football.
He narrated; “I was scouted from my football team back then in Ojo to play for Pepsi football Academy my dad chased them away, was scouted by an Agent he’s late now Mr Arthur Golde, i was to go to Birmingham for trials my dad tore the papers, i had to just give up on football.
I don’t play with love for the game anymore only when i feel like exercising & catching fun. During U17 golden eaglets camp i was invited along with some players from my village Eziobodo in Owerri to join the golden Eaglets camp by Emmanuel Amuneke my dad refused.
My uncle now late begged my parents to register me in Buruj Sports Academy ogolonto ikorodu their refused, they said they’ll never allow me play football that football is a useless sport, but look at football today, i’m glad some parents are doing better today…
I had love for arts so much, i used to write songs & sing too, i was one of the best actors during my school theatre days my parents refused, forced me to switch to science class at some point i couldn’t cope they had to switch me back to art class it affected me.
Most times people die with their dreams because of their parents, oftentimes our parents mean well for us but sometimes they kill our dreams. Who knows i might have been playing for my dream club Manchester United today if not for my dad. But it’s all in the past.”
