Popular singer and songwriter, Fireboy DML, has revealed that he once attempted to copy American pop star Beyoncé’s performance routine.
The YBNL artiste made the revelation during a recent interview with RollingStone, while admitting that he could not keep up with copying the Grammy award winner.
Fireboy, who is 28 years old, said he then decided to work on himself and did artiste development to improve his stage performance.
He said: “Right from time, even when I used to write my saddest songs, I used to imagine myself playing them in front of millions of people. I always imagine myself on stage when I write my songs.
“So taking that energy from the studio to stage is really a piece of cake for me. What matters to me is making sure that I have fun. When I enjoy myself, everyone else enjoyed themselves.
“Step by step, I learned from the greats, I studied; did artist development stuff like vocal training. There was a time I tried to copy Beyonce’s routine. But I didn’t last two days.”
In another news…
CorrectNG reported earlier that Fireboy whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan explained the reason 2023 was a relatively quiet year for him musically.
The singer who had an impressive global run between 2021 and 2022 said he decided to take the time to learn and grow. Fireboy expressed gratitude for the journey so far and noted that the problems he encountered in 2023 has taught him to appreciate all things.
Speaking in an interview with Wat And Ers, the ‘Peru’ crooner said; “This year is one of those years where it’s necessary for artiste to grow and step down from all the craziness. 2023 has been a year of learning and growth for me as a person and as an artiste.
“I’m just really grateful for the journey. When people say be grateful for the journey, I think this year has been that year for me. Sometimes, it’s okay to step out from being an artiste and just realise that you’re human as well. With an actual life, with real problems just like everybody else.
“And this year has really taught me to appreciate all those things. But this year has been rather quiet for me so it’s also giving me more time to spend more time with family at home in Lagos, Nigeria.”
