The Federal House of Representatives has summoned Nigerian singer and music executive, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, to appear before it following the death of his former signee, Mohbad.
Jiggy Adeoye, the late singer’s manager was also invited by the House, through its Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance.
This is to enable the lawmakers have an interactive session scheduled for October 3 with the aim of securing proper compensation and royalties for the late music sensation.
Hon Babajimi Benson (APC-Lagos) moved the motion for the Lower chamber to intervene in the matter and noted that there is a need to review the laws pertaining to the entertainment industry and copyright.
The lawmaker expressed concerns about the contracts and agreements that artistes were often compelled to sign.
During the debate on the matter at the plenary session on September 26, the House pledged to monitor the ongoing investigation into his death and the royalties accruing to him.
In a letter dated October 26, signed by the Committee’s Clerk, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim, the House formally summoned both Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager. With the session, lawmakers hope for Marley and Jiggy to provide insights into the situation and guide the committee on potential legislative action.
