A 55-year-old herbalist, Kabiru Amuda, has been arrested and charged to court in Oyo state for allegedly duping a client to the tune of N2.5 million.
The suspect was alleged to have demanded the sum as payment for a charm which he gave to one Taofeek Ogungbe, who wanted his business to expand.
Police arraigned Amuda on Tuesday at an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court, Ibadan on the charges of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing. The accused, whose home address was not provided, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Iyabo Oladoyin told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in June, at Ilora, Oyo State.
Oladoyin alleged that the defendant obtained the money from Taofeek under the pretext of wanting to prepare him a traditional charm to boost his business and personal wealth.
She told the court that the defendant failed to provide the agreed services whose offence contravenes Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Adebola Adeola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N3 million (Three Million Naira) with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case until August 20.
