A student at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti state, Olaniyi Israel Adewale, has commenced a drum-beating marathon in a bid to become a Guinness World Record holder.
The computer science undergraduate intends to beat drums for 150 hours and set a new record for the longest drumming marathon by an individual.
Olaniyi began the exercise April 29, 2024 using the African talking drum and he is projected to conclude the nearly seven-day quest on May 5, 2024.
Adewale disclosed that Guinness World Records (GWR) gave approval for him to run the attempt, and as of Saturday evening, he had surpassed 100 hours. The attempt is being aired across his social media platforms.
In a post via Instagram, the young man appreciated the support of Nigerian comedian, Ayo Ajewole aka Woli Agba, towards the quest.
He wrote; “This is becoming real and overwhelming. I could not imagine that the challenge that started days ago is now close to 100 hours.
“And I sincerely want to appreciate Woliagba for the support he showed and the platform he gave me for recognition.
“My appreciation is it today but I just want to inform you he showed up tonight in our live video session. Let us drum up history, I’m still drumming.”
