Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is on the brink of embarking on his maiden managerial role.

According to reports from the Netherlands, former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is edging closer to securing his first managerial position with Heerenveen, as per Metro.

After retiring from professional football in 2019, Van Persie ventured into coaching, initially joining Feyenoord’s youth setup.

At Feyenoord, Van Persie has been involved in coaching the Under-18s and Under-19s squads throughout the current season.

Sources from AD suggest that Van Persie has been engaged in multiple discussions with Heerenveen, indicating mutual interest in finalizing a deal soon.

Initially considering other candidates such as Maurice Steijn and Rick Kruys, Heerenveen has now turned their focus to Van Persie for their managerial position due to his impressive performance during negotiations.

Heerenveen currently occupies the 10th position in the Eredivisie standings, enjoying a comfortable 12-point gap above the relegation playoff spot. However, their recent form has been lackluster, with just one victory in their last six league matches.

Despite his managerial pursuits, Van Persie made a return to Manchester United in February to complete his UEFA Pro Licence coaching course.

During his three-day visit to Carrington, he observed United’s training sessions under Erik ten Hag and his assistant Mitchell van der Gaag.

Additionally, Van Persie attended United’s 3-0 victory over West Ham, providing him with the opportunity to reconnect with his former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
