Ace singer and songwriter, Davido, has asserted that the global recognition and acceptance which Nigerian artistes are currently enjoying is as a result of sacrifices made by the veteran artistes.
The Omo Baba Olowo said the likes of Tubaba, D’Banj and PSquare are the reason musicians from Nigeria are making waves globally.
Davido stated this in the latest episode of The Bridge Show, while predicting that the next generation will also enjoy more because of the sacrifices of he and the leading acts such as Wizkid and Burna Boy.
According to him, the Nigerian music industry has been on a steady growth, and it will only continue to get bigger than its current level.
Davido recalled that when he signed a record deal with Sony Music in 2016, the label wanted him to start all over again not realising that he was already a superstar in Africa.
He said; “When I first got signed to an international label, Sony in 2016… When we come and sign record deals overseas, they don’t know that we are superstars back home. I came straight from Mali where I performed at 60,000-capacity stadium to sign the deal. But when you sign a new deal they want you to prove yourself again.
“I told my manager that I am not starting again o! But then it takes time to understand that we are sacrificing now. What D’banj, P-Square and 2Face sacrificed for us is what we are enjoying now. What we are sacrificing now the next generation will profit from it. The next generation would be bigger definitely because the music is only going to grow bigger.”
