CorrectNG recalls that in January, Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Kunle Oluomo was impeached.
Eighteen of the 36 members of State Assembly voted for Oluomo’s impeachment at plenary session. In his place, the Assembly immediately elected a member, Hon Oludaisi Elemide as the new speaker.
Oluomo has been embroiled in allegations ranging from alleged embezzlement of funds, highhandedness and related offences. His impeachment may not be unconnected to the many allegations against him.
Giving his maiden speech after the impeachment, the new speaker, Elemide asked for calm among fellow lawmakers.
He said that the impeachment was not targeted against the governor of the state Dapo Abiodun as being speculated in some quarters.
