BREAKING: NLC Reveals When Workers Will Receive New Minimum Wage [VIDEO]

BREAKING: NLC Reveals When Workers Will Receive New Minimum Wage [VIDEO]—In a significant announcement, Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has confirmed that federal civil servants will receive their full minimum wage salaries, including arrears, by the end of October.

This development comes after a productive meeting between Organized Labour and the Federal Government, which took place at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The meeting was primarily focused on addressing the rising costs of transportation, essential goods, food items, and fuel prices that have impacted the lives of workers. One of the key agreements reached was the federal government’s commitment to settle all outstanding wage awards and arrears for workers.

In addition, discussions are set to take place with state governors to ensure the nationwide implementation of the newly approved minimum wage of N70,000 starting in October. Ajaero emphasized the urgency of the payments during an interview with NTA, stating that all payments, including arrears, are expected to be completed by the end of the month.

While Ajaero assured that the overarching agreement mandates payment by the end of October, he acknowledged that individual agencies and parastatals may negotiate specific payment dates with their respective employees.

“The meeting we had was a consensus that all payments must be made by the end of this month, including the arrears,” Ajaero remarked. “However, agencies have the flexibility to negotiate specific payment schedules with their workers.”
