The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, (EFCC), has issued a veiled threat to the people who abuse naira notes in Nigeria.
Speaking amid the news of Bobrisky being sent to jail, the EFCC said if preaching will not drive home the message, conviction will.
It further asked those in doubt to get ‘update to used’ from cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky who was sentenced to six months in prison on Friday.
Taking to its official Twitter page, the EFCC said those who refused to stop abusing naira will not have an excuse when the agency comes knocking at the door.
The anti-graft agency wrote; “Say No To Abuse of the Naira. If preaching will not send the message, conviction will. Na our naira you dey abuse, change your ways, you refuse. When EFCC comes to accuse, knowday you no get excuse. Ask Bob for the update to use.”

The Federal High Court in Lagos state has sentenced popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, to six months in jail.
The socialite was convicted and sentenced on Friday, April 12 without the option of fine. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arraigned him on four counts of naira abuse and money laundering.
The court, earlier dismissed the money laundering charges but convicted Bobrisky for Naira Abuse after he confessed to the crime.
Recall that last week Friday, the court had fixed April 12 as the date for sentencing after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of tampering with N490,000 (Four Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira).
Justice Awogboro held that the judgement will serve as a deterrence to others who are fond of abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency.
The Judge, however, ordered that the jail term commences on March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest by the anti-graft agency.
