Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has expressed his keen interest in potentially joining Liverpool this summer, stating that it would be unwise not to consider such an opportunity.
Earlier this week, it was revealed by 90min that Slot had emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Prior to Feyenoord’s 3-1 victory against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday, Slot disclosed that Liverpool had been in contact with Feyenoord regarding a potential deal, and he expressed his eagerness to take on the challenge at Anfield.
Following the match, Slot provided a further update on the negotiations and elaborated on his desire to take on the role of Liverpool’s new manager.
He continued, “Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing. I am patiently awaiting further developments, as I was before the match. If terms are agreed upon, subsequent discussions will follow. It’s clear that Feyenoord aims to secure the best deal possible, and naturally, I believe they will also prioritize my interests. Joining Liverpool would signify a significant career progression for me. At this stage, I must allow the clubs to handle their part and wait for updates. My intentions to join Liverpool are no secret.”
Slot has enjoyed notable success with Feyenoord since taking over in 2021. He led the team to the final of the inaugural Europa Conference League in his debut season and clinched the Eredivisie title in the 2022/23 campaign. Despite their current position trailing in the league, Feyenoord recently secured victory in the Dutch Cup.
Meanwhile, Liverpool finds themselves in a challenging position in the Premier League standings, currently sitting third after Manchester City’s victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday. The race for the title remains tight, with Liverpool trailing Arsenal by three points and City by two (with a game in hand for City).
