On Wednesday night, April 7, two officers of the Police suffered gunshot wounds as another attack was launched on Mbieri divisional police headquarters.

Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the fresh the attack to news men. According to the spokesperson of the state police command, the armed men attacked the police headquarters at about 10pm however they met the full resistance of the immediate police force. Regrettably, two officers sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

In recent times, there has been several attacks on Police stations. An attack on Monday, April 5 at the state headquarters by unidentified gunmen helped over 1800 inmates to break free.

Initially six inmates voluntarily returned after they escaped the correction facility in Owerri, Imo State on Monday, April 5. The Nigerian correctional center disclosed that during the attack 35 others refused to flee from custody.

On Wednesday, after another attack, 80 new inmates who escaped have returned to the facility. This comes after the Federal Minister of Interior Affairs, Rauf Aregbesola promised that the Federal government will grant any returnee inmate amnesty.

Confirming the recent development, John Mrabure, the acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service released a statement signed by Francis Enobore, the spokesman for corrections. The statement revealed that about 1,844 inmates have fled from custody.

Meanwhile, it was alleged that IPOB members responsible for the attacks. The Governor of Imo State, Hope also said resentful politicians were behind the attacks.
