JUST IN: LASG Rewards 30 Drivers For Safety Compliance—-The Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) has recognised and awarded 30 professional drivers for safety compliance and exemplary conduct.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr Olawale Musa, said this at the 2024 Drivers Recognition and Award Ceremony held at LASDRI’s headquarters on Tuesday in Lagos.
The ceremony had the theme: “Driver Education: A Strategy for Human Capital Development in a 21st Century Economy.”
Musa stated that the ceremony provided an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate drivers for their exemplary professionalism.
“I commend the drivers for their perseverance in long hours on the road enduring harsh weather conditions, managing the numerous challenges and ensuring safe arrivals at destinations.
“Driving is a complex task that requires a high level of physical, cognitive and behavioral skills and responses, and so recognising and rewarding exceptional individuals is more than just a nod of thanks.
“This is but a crucial reminder of the indispensable role drivers play in keeping the nation moving,” he said.
Earlier, the General Manager LASDRI, Mrs Tiamiyu Afusat, noted that the award was in recognition of hard work, perseverance and pride that drivers bring to their jobs.
Afusat added that the award was to recognise the commitment the drivers demonstrated to making the road safer for other road users.
“Driving is not just a job but also a skill, an art, and a responsibility,” she said.
She further highlighted the qualities of professional drivers on display as they navigate the intricate network of roads, ensuring that people and goods reach their destinations safely.
Also speaking, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Mr Olalekan Bakare Oki, urged drivers to always prioritise safety while on the road.
Bakare-Oki encouraged the award recipients to renew their commitment to promoting a culture of safety, responsibility, and continuous learning.
He noted that LASDRI remains dedicated to providing top-notch training, resources, and support to ensure that drivers are not only skilled but also equipped to navigate the ever-changing landscape.
The event attracted drivers from government and corporate organisations, transport unions, amongst others. (NAN)
