*Nostalgia on the Road to Ondo*
As I prepared for my journey to Ondo for the elections, it felt like I was gearing up for battle. The first skirmish? Securing a flight ticket to Akure. I rallied all my human resources—friends, family, and anyone who could help in this ticket quest. It was a tense operation, but then, a beacon of hope! A contact within the airline emerged with a ticket at a price I dare not disclose. Victory! I could almost hear the cheers—“Allelu!!!”
I went to bed yesterday night, excitement bubbling as I anticipated my 1000-hour flight. But the next morning, reality struck. My phone buzzed with a message: “Flight delayed until 1500hrs for technical reasons.” My heart sank a little. The plane would first head to Anambra before finally taking off for Akure at 1700hrs. When I called to confirm if the 1500hrs schedule was a “sure banker,” they could only assure me once operations began. Ahhh, Oga o!!
So, I decided to “borrow myself sense” 😂. I gathered my trusted escort team and set off on a road trip to Akure. The moment we hit the road, a wave of nostalgia washed over me. These were the familiar paths I traversed as a younger officer—Lokoja, Obajana, Kabba. Memories flooded back with each landmark we passed, and soon we found ourselves entering Ondo State, finally arriving in Owo! Òwò madè!!! Emure ile to Amurin, uso. oke odo. ogbese, bolorunduro, ilu-abo,eleyeowo obaile akure !!! , Sweet memories—I was the Divisional Police Officer Owo.
Ah, the roadside bush market! A vibrant display of palm oil, assorted bush meats, yams, and dried fish, all mingling with unripe bananas. It was a feast for the senses! I could almost feel the old thrill of stopping by these stalls, loading up on goodies for my journey to Lagos. How I missed that joy of local shopping, a world away from the convenience of air travel.
We made a delightful stop at Ogbere to savour roasted corn 🌽 and boli, soaking in the ambience of freedom and the fresh, clean air. It was a reminder of simpler times, and I couldn’t help but smile at the memories. As we entered Akure, I was reminded of my days as the Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Finally, we rolled into town for the national assignment that brought us here. Duty calls! 😂
However, it gave me joy to say that I arrived in Akure by 1430 hrs. A typical case of
Ese ya ju motor ( the legs are faster than vehicles) 😂🤣😂
This journey felt like a homecoming. It had been ages since I travelled by road and even longer since my last visit to Ondo State. Each mile rekindled sweet memories, a nostalgic reminder of the past, intertwined with the excitement of the present
Eku ile oooo😂🤣🙏🏾🙏🏾
