In a detailed Facebook statement released yesterday, Salako revealed that the decision came after three years of discussions with his wife, ultimately receiving support from both Foluke and her mother. The child, Murewa, is now over three years old.
Salako, who has been married to Foluke since 2010, explained that his previous three children from his former marriage to Olubukola Olusunmola are now grown and living in America. Meanwhile, Foluke has two children from her previous marriage to Tunde Sobowale, which ended in 2008.
“Foluke is a film producer and social celebrity who hardly stays at home,” Salako stated, noting that despite their 13-year marriage, they haven’t had a child together. He emphasized that his wife’s busy career and their childless situation led to mutual understanding about his desire to have children in Nigeria for his old age security.
According to Salako, the arrangement was carefully considered, with Foluke herself suggesting that he have a child with a well-raised younger woman whom she could relate to as a sister. He further clarified that contrary to circulating rumors, he did not take another wife, and that Foluke maintains a cordial relationship with the mother of his new child.
The statement appears to be aimed at addressing public speculation while emphasizing the consensual nature of the arrangement between all parties involved.
