Federal Government Grants Approval for Kogi’s International Airport Project

The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has officially authorized the Kogi State Government’s proposal to build an International Airport in the Zariagi region of the state.

Kogi’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, announced that the approval was communicated to Governor Ahmed Ododo through a letter dated October 9, 2024.

Mr. Fanwo emphasized the commitment of Governor Ododo’s administration to ensure the project’s timely completion while adhering to all regulatory standards. He noted that the airport would not only serve Kogi State but also benefit ten neighboring states, alleviating traffic congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja Road and easing pressure on the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

“The Ododo Administration has prioritized the establishment of an International Airport in Kogi State, aiming to position the state within the aviation sector’s elite. The strategic location of Kogi is a significant asset for tapping into the aviation service market at the nation’s center,” Fanwo stated.

This initiative is expected to enhance the state’s economy, create job opportunities, and elevate Kogi’s profile on the global stage.

“The governor is resolved to engage top industry professionals to ensure the project’s success, recognizing that trust and standards are paramount in aviation,” he added.

Fanwo expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Aviation Minister for their historic approval, which he believes will significantly contribute to Kogi State’s development. He also mentioned that the airport will be designed to accommodate cargo services, highlighting its importance to the project’s objectives.

He reassured the citizens of Kogi State that the administration of Alh. Usman Ododo will persist in implementing impactful projects to build upon the achievements of the past eight years.

Zariagi, known for its strategic significance, already features an airstrip, and officials from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development were pleased with both the location and the Kogi State Government’s plans for the airport project.
