The unprovoked assault was reportedly carried out under the directive of Major Adebiyi and Captain Gowon, raising concerns about military interference in civil matters.
The incident could have escalated further if not for the swift and decisive intervention of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General T. Lagbaja, and the Director of Chaplain Services, Lt. Col. T.E. Ogbonyomi. Their prompt action reinforced the principle that military personnel must respect and operate under the authority of civil governance while within civilian jurisdictions.
In a statement, Tokunbo Wahab, the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, condemned the attack on KAI officers, calling it “unwarranted and unacceptable.” He emphasized that such acts of aggression will not be tolerated in the future, and that military personnel must adhere to their lawful duties without disrupting civil operations.
