How Nigerian Immigration Released Sowore After ‘Detention’ at Lagos Airport

Publisher of Sahara Reporters Omoyele Sowore on Sunday said he was released after a brief detention by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on his arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Mr Sowore arrived in Nigeria after months long visit to the United States where his family is based.

The rights activist said his passport was confiscated.

“DETAINED BY THE @NigerianImmigration, my International passport confiscated.

“I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA to the MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they told me they had orders to detain me,” he wrote.

Sowore wrote in less than a hour later on X that he had been released.

“I have just been released by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport released back to me. #RevolutionNow,” he wrote.

The Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Sowore in 2019 over his call for the #RevolutionNow protest.
