Ayra Starr to Make Nollywood Debute in Jade Osiberu’s star-studded film ‘Christmas in Lagos’

Nigerian music stars Ayra Star and Adekunle Gold are set to make their acting debut in Jade Osiberu’s upcoming film, Christmas in Lagos. The celebrated filmmaker and director teased the new project in a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, offering glimpses of the star-studded cast.

In her Instagram post, Osiberu hinted at the film, stating, “If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that when Jade is quiet, she’s cooking up something special. I might not dance, but I can definitely make films.” Describing the film as “beautiful” and “heartwarming,” she announced it will premiere on Prime Video this December.

Osiberu expressed her excitement about collaborating with a talented cast and hinted at appearances from well-known Afrobeat artists.

The storyline centers around Fiyin, who, after a heartbreak, starts believing her best friend, Elo, is her true soulmate. However, the plot thickens when Elo returns from New York to propose to his secret girlfriend, Yagazie. Meanwhile, 59-year-old Gbemi is caught in a love triangle between her longtime boyfriend and her high school sweetheart. In another subplot, Ivie, who was born in London, comes back to Lagos for the holidays, seeking a memorable “Detty December” experience but ends up falling in love with Ajani.

The film boasts a stellar Nollywood lineup, including Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Teniola Aladese, Angel Anosike, Folu Storms, and Afrobeat stars Waje and Ladipoe.

Known for hits like Gangs of Lagos, Sugar Rush, Brotherhood, and Isoken, Jade Osiberu describes Christmas in Lagos as a celebration of Nigeria’s lively “Detty December” culture—a festive month filled with parties, events, and celebrations that turn Lagos into a bustling holiday hub.
