The Genius Media reports that Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF club competitions, including Enugu Rangers, Remo Stars, Enyimba, and El-Kanemi Warriors, will each receive $50,000 as participation fees in the preliminary stages of the 2024-2025 Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Enugu Rangers and Remo Stars are representing Nigeria in the Champions League as the champions and runners-up of the 2023-2024 NPFL campaign, respectively, while Enyimba, who finished third in the NPFL, and El Kanemi Warriors, who won the President Federation Cup, are representing Nigeria in the Confederation Cup.
In a statement released on Friday, August 16, CAF announced the increased monetary reward for clubs participating in the preliminary stages, aligning with CAF President Patrice Motsepe’s commitment to enhancing club competitions and offering more financial support to clubs.
The preliminary rounds of matches have commenced, and the prize money will notably increase after each stage. The Nigerian clubs could earn up to $400,000 (Confederation Cup) and $700,000 (Champions League) if they advance to the group stages in each competition.
The winner of the CAF Champions League will receive $4 million, while the winner of the Confederation Cup will receive $2 million.
El-Kanemi Warriors will be the first Nigerian club in action as they face Dadje FC of Benin Republic in their first-leg encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, on Saturday. Enyimba will commence their Confederation Cup campaign in the second round.
On the other hand, Enugu Rangers will play against US Zilimadjou of Comoros in the first leg of their preliminary round of the Champions League at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday. Similarly, Remo Stars will host AS FAR Rabat of Morocco.
