US rapper, Saint Jhn denies being influenced by Rema

Guyanese American Hip Hop star, Saint Jhn, has denied claims that Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema inspired him.

The Grammy winner issued the disclaimer after a fan on microblogging platform, Twitter (X) claimed his latest afro-themed single, ‘Humble’ was heavily influenced by Rema.

Saint Jhn took to his page and explained that the ‘Calm Down’ hit-maker is talented but he hasn’t listened to his music enough to be influenced by him.

The fan wrote: “I hear Rema’s influence on the new Saint Jhn” to which Saint replied: “Nah, he’s dope. But I haven’t heard enough to be influenced.”

Nigerian music producer cum artiste, Philip Kayode Moses, otherwise known as Pheelz earlier said he is interested in a collaboration with Rema.

Pheelz expressed confidence during an episode of the ‘Menisms’ podcast that their collaboration will dictate the future of the Nigerian music industry/Afrobeats.

“I think Rema and I can dictate the future [of Nigerian music/Afrobeats]. I would love to work with him. I think our collaboration will change the world,” he said.

Recall that Pheelz also disclosed how Divine “Rema” Ikubor inspired him to make the switch from a producer to a singer.

He said a particular tweet from the 23-year-old award winning singer over four years ago changed his career trajectory from producer to artiste. Pheelz said during the COVID-19 lockdown he saw a tweet from Rema that changed his life.

The ‘Finesse’ crooner said: “Rema tweeted ‘the world is on pause for you to catch up’ and I felt that that was a message to me personally.”

According to him, that tweet provoked something in him and he told himself he couldn’t afford to leave the world with all the talent he left behind.

“I kept telling myself I have to die empty,” the ace producer added.
