Controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh, has come to the defence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as protest breaks out across the country amid worsening economic hardship.
As Nigerians take to the streets of Abuja, Borno, Lagos, Kaduna, Jos, Osun and other states to express their grievance with the current administration, Tonto Dikeh tacitly declared her support for Tinubu.
In a post on her Instagram page, she said that one truth which many people can’t deny is that if Nigerians don’t like someone, nothing the person ever does will be good enough for them.
The actress wrote: ”Statistics don’t lie: everyone is working to get this country to where we want it to be. One thing about Nigerians is that if they don’t like you, nothing you do will ever be good enough for them. Let’s not deny this glaring truth. Stay safe and make wise decisions always.”
Tonto shared a statistics which claims that there have been big improvements in the foreign reserves, minimum wage, forex backlog, oil production, and debt-to-revenue ratio.
This is coming days after the Nollywood star urged Nigerians to shelve the planned nationwide protests slated to hold from August 1-10, 2024.
She acknowledged that the people are right to express their grievance over the widespread frustration and economic hardships but noted that taking to the streets might not be the most effective way to address the issues.
Tonto Dikeh, in a statement released via her Instagram page said her position is informed by what she experienced and witnessed during the #EndSARS protest in 2020.
According to her, the EndSARS movement was hijacked by ill-minded individuals and who made it lose the primary purpose of its commencement, eleading to violence and loss of lives.
Giving a suggestion on an alternative approach, Dikeh said it will be better to form a representative group to negotiate directly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She captioned ...; “Sometimes we can be right, but our mode of expression is what matters. This is an honest plea to all Nigerian youths. Let’s make smart choices.”
