Lack of followers hindered my growth in the movie industry - Deyemi Okanlawon

Okanlawon, who spoke in an interview on the Echoo Room Podcast, said he eventually came to the decision to not fight it and instead focus on building his brand.

He said; “Not having Instagram followers hindered me. I would tell myself, ‘I’m the guy who comes to kill himself on set. Why am I being judged by the number of followers I have?

“I said to myself, there is no point fighting it. There’s always going to be a new set of people who focus more on the brand than the craft. So I said let me start some brand-building.”

CorrectNG reported months ago that Okanlawon affirmed that a lot of his colleagues in the entertainment industry are broke.

He stated this via his verified Twitter (X) account while replying to a fan who wondered if fame does not bring money.

Deyemi first talked about goals actors set for themselves and noted that instead of them to be aiming to be the most featured or appear in the highest grossing films, they should aim to be the highest earning performers.

He tweeted; ”Not every time aim for HIGHEST GROSSING or HIGHEST FEATURED… more often reach for HIGHEST EARNING! #alist”

In reaction, a tweep @Tallbertie asked; I thought the fame brings the bag??

The movie star then said that a lot of famous people are broke and fame is just a byproduct which does not guarantee wealth.

Deyemi explained that a combination of raw talent, strategic work and impeccable work ethic are what ensure that an actor gets rich.

He said; ”There are lots of famous broke ppl… fame is a byproduct, it’s the talent and the grind (work strategy and work ethic) that brings the bag.”
