Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, has advised citizens against the planned nationwide protest to start on 1st of August, saying it is coming at the wrong time.
He cited the #EndSARS movement of 2020 as an example to learn from, emphasising the fragile political environment and warning about the potential for hijack by criminals.
Uzodinma, who is also the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum addressed State House correspondents on Wednesday after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
The governor urged citizens to protect the nation’s stability and avoid actions that could worsen economic hardships.
CorrectNG reports that his statement came after President Bola Tinubu appealed to Nigerians to shelve the upcoming protest against bad governance.
Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris conveyed the president’s plea while speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with Tinubu on Tuesday.
Idris said the current administration wants the organisers of the protest to cancel the plan and await the President’s response to their complaints.
He said; “The issue of the planned protest, Mr President does not see any need for that. He’s asked them to shelve that plan. He’s asked them to await the government’s response to all their pleas.
“A lot is happening, only today National Assembly passed the new national minimum wage bill. You can see the president is working”.
