Special Adviser to the President on Communications and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has challenged presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, following his lawsuit threat against him.
Onanuga recently leveled allegation that Obi and his supporters were responsible for the planned nationwide protests against the Tinubu-led government over the hardship in the country.
CorrectNG reported on Tuesday, that in a letter filed by Obi’s legal representative, Alex Ejesieme on 22nd July, 2024, Onanuga was asked to retract the statement and has been given 72 hours to pay N5billion damages.
“Consequently, we have our client’s mandate to demand that you retract the statement made in the publication and tender an unreserved apology to him within 72 hours of the receipt of this letter in not less than 4 National Dailies to wit: Vanguard, THISDAY, Punch, and TheCable, including your verified X“@aonanuga1956.
“Our client is also making an unequivocal demand for the monetary damage of N5b for the embarrassment your defamatory publication has caused him and his family.”
Taking to his official Twitter (X) account on Tuesday night to react, the presidential aide said he is ready to meet the former governor of Anambra state in court.
He wrote; “I am still waiting for the letter from Peter Obi’s lawyer threatening a N5 billion suit and demanding an apology to Peter Obi over the planned ‘revolution’. Let me just tell Obi and his lawyer: I am not afraid of any legal action. We shall meet in court.”
