My mother was always trekking – Rema speaks on what motivated him to do music

Music star, Divine Ikubor also known as Rema, has shared an insight into why he ventured into music and was determined to succeed by all means.

He said his primary motivation was the fact that his family struggled so much that his mother was trekking everyday as she did not have money to board motorbike or bus.

The ‘Bounce’ hit-maker opened up during an interview with Capital Xtral London that this was the personal reality which motivated him to become a professional musician.

Rema said once he started making money from music, he bought a car for her but he chose to still be trekking at the time.

He said; “I was tired of my mum trekking every day; she didn’t even have money for transport to use a bus or bike. So I had to take it to the next level ASAP. The moment I made money, I got her a car ASAP. We went for dinner, then I gave her that car.

“A lot of boys would go for their own cars first but I was still trekking, but I had to get a car for my mum first. She’s a great mum. She’s the reason I’m successful. Her prayers. She’s really proud of me.”

Budding musician, Crown Uzama professionally known as Shallipopi, has opened up on how hunger motivated him to become financially successful.

Shallipopi said he’s once been so broke that he drank garri for 10 days in a stretch and it was within that period that he started to think about his life.

The ‘Garri’ singer made the revelation while being interviewed by Hip Hop artiste, Odumodublck on an episode of Turntable podcast.

Odumodu asked him what was the extreme incident that happened before he hit stardom that made him vow to make it by any means.

In response, Shallipopi said after drinking garri for 10 days straight, he knew that he had to work hard and make it in life.

“Make you just taste garri for like 10 straight days, then you go rethink your life. You go blow by force,” the 23-year-old singer said.
