Multi award-winning Nigerian musician, David Adeleke known professionally as Davido, has spoken on the growth and acceptance of Afrobeats globally.
He opined that Afrobeats has grown so big that artistes under the genre are now on the same level with Canadian rap star, Drake, who also happens to be his friend.
Davido spoke during the Hip TV panel discussion with the United States Advisory council on Africa Diaspora Engagement and Leaders In Nigeria’s Creative Industries.
The ‘Unavailable’ crooner Davido expressed pride because domestic artistes were now selling the same tickets as global pop and hip-hop stars. He noted that the earnings from an afrobeats single can translate to generational wealth.
Davido said; “Afrobeats Artistes are selling the same tickets as Drake. Now one song as an afrobeat artist can change your generation”.
The DMW boss also advised young musicians to collaborate with themselves rather than chase international features, stressing that “When you collaborate with your friends, they put their all.”

CorrectNG recalls that International Afrobeats and Dancehall singer, Damini Ogulu, known by his stage name, Burna Boy bemoaned not being respected enough by Nigerians.
He said his compatriots don’t believe he is on the same level as American music stars because of how he sounds.
Burna stated this in an interview with Los Angeles Times as he talked about how his countrymen often rate up-and-coming American rappers above him.
The self-styled “African Giant” said American songs used to dominate Nigerian media houses’ playlists but that has changed thanks to the explosion of Afrobeats.
Burna Boy said; “To this day, there’s many Nigerians who can tell you an American rapper who just started their career, and they’ll say they’re bigger than Burna Boy. They don’t understand it.
“They’ll say, ‘There’s no way someone who talks like me, can even be on the same level as an American artiste.”
