BREAKING: Gareth Southgate Step Down As England Head Coach?

BREAKING: Gareth Southgate Step Down As England Head Coach?—–The FA fear Gareth Southgate will step down as England manager following last night’s heartbreaking Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

Southgate is under contract until December and will be offered a new deal if he decides he wants to continue to the 2026 World Cup.

However, FA chiefs are braced for Southgate to call time on his eight-year tenure after being visibly stung by criticism received during this tournament.

The 53-year-old was close to quitting after the Qatar World Cup before a change of heart.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and Graham Potter are both thought to be high on the FA’s list of potential successors along with under-21 boss Lee Carsley.

Mauricio Pochettino will also be considered if they decide to appoint an overseas coach.

Southgate has guided England to back-to-back European Championship finals, but has come up short both times following the defeat to Italy on penalties three years ago.

It was Spain who inflicted the latest heartbreak on England – and Southgate – as Mikel Oyarzabal scored an 86th minute winner in a 2-1 victory.

And he could now decide to walk away from the England dugout, with a new manager to take charge of a star-studded squad.
