Watch Moment Joe Biden Calls Kamala Harris ‘Vice President Trump’ At Press Conference [VIDEO]—United States President, Joe Biden has stirred reactions over a mistake he did during a press conference on Thursday.
During the ‘big boy press conference’ at Washington’s Convention Center, Biden mistakenly referred to the Vice President Kamala Harris as former Presiden, Donald Trump.
“Look, I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president if I think she’s not qualified to be president,” the 81-year-old said, causing gasps and groans from the journalists at the annual NATO summit.
The president spoke softly and rasply, often pausing to cough and sometimes losing his train of thought at the solo press conference in Washington.
A reporter brought up Biden’s mistake during the final question of the press conference, asking him to comment on it after Trump had mocked him. Biden smiled and said, “Listen to him,” before walking off the stage.
The event was meant to calm increasing calls from Democrats for Biden to step aside after a confusing debate against Trump on June 27.
Instead, Biden’s mixed-up comments, forgotten questions, and rambling answers added to concerns about his performance.
Donald Trump, the 78-year-old Republican frontrunner, quickly mocked Biden on social media.
The ex-president wrote, “Crooked Joe begins his ‘Big Boy’ Press Conference with, ‘I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president, though I think she was not qualified to be president.’ Great job, Joe!”
The press conference was supposed to show Democrats that Biden could handle tough questions and think quickly in an unscripted setting.
Pressure on Biden to drop out of the 2024 race has been growing, especially after his poor debate performance against Trump on June 27 and his campaign’s inability to ease voters’ worries about his health.
It became clear that Biden’s hourlong press conference did not ease Democrats’ concerns.
Just four minutes after Biden left the stage, Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, released a statement calling for Biden to leave the race.
Shortly after, Rep. Scott Peters, D-Calif., did the same, saying, “The stakes are high, and we are on a losing course.”
