Famous musician, Gabriel Oche Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has recalled the slapping of a Disc Jockey that marred his career several years ago.
It may be recalled that in June 2016, Terry G slapped DJ Phreez, for playing another artiste’s song in a bid to get him off stage. The assault led to the Disc Jockeys association placing a ban on his songs.
The ‘Free Madness’ crooner has now admitted during an episode of The Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Olajide, that the assault affected his career.
According to him, there was some underlining hatred towards him before the unfortunate incident which affected his growth as an artiste.
Terry G revealed during the chat that he later apologised to the DJ Phreez and his boss, DJ Jimmy Jatt, but the damage had already been done as he remained black listed.
He said; “That stuff [slapping] affected me as an artiste, but the fact is people don’t understand the narrative. Let me give a little bit of what happened. It was a show that we all came to support the arts.
We were all backstage, though we were locked, so it got to my time, of course I was present when others were performing, it got to my time and I didn’t know I had time limit. So I was still doing my thing when I heard DJ [Making hype sounds] on stage. And people know me as a craazy guy.
So now do you expect me to just walk out of the stage like that? It will even kill my career the more… No, it got me pissed to be honest and na very small DJ, so I had to bless him so that we will have 50/50 because that was deliberate.”
