Famous rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem has revealed why he believes Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has remained silent amid the hardship under President Bola Tinubu.
He said it is a well known fact that the playwright has as a personal relationship with the president, and that is the reason he is yet to criticise the government.
Eedris spoke while being interviewed by SRTV, wher he noted that Soyinka who is known for his fierce criticisms of the past administration, has been unfairly quiet in the current dispensation.
The controversial artiste said; “He [Wole Soyinka] has been very quiet lately. I know he has a good relationship with Tinubu so we know why”.
CorrectNG recalls that in December 2023, when Soyinka was questioned over his silence in the face of the hardship in the country, he will comment after the president has been in office for a year
The novelist stated this after paying a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his private residence in Lagos state. Soyinka explained that it was his personal policy, as he often gives presidents one year in office before giving his opinion about their performance.
He said; “Well, you know, something you may have noticed about me is that most heads of state, when they take office, I always leave them alone for about the first year…Because they need time.
“I know when they come in, they don’t start from ground zero. They often start even lower than ground zero and they have to make up.
“So, I’m adopting the same principle this time. When you see me next year, ask the same question again and listen to my answer”.
