Adekunle Gold mentions Timi Dakolo’s song that should’ve become new national anthem

Nigerian singer, Adekunle Gold has suggested that a song by his colleague, Timi Dakolo would have been a better replacement for the old national anthem which government reverted to.

He wondered why nobody thought of adopting Dakolo’s ‘Great Nation’ as it would have made a better anthem than ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’.

CorrectNG reported earlier on Wednesday, May 29 that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed into law a bill for the reversion to the old national anthem.

This was made known by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio during plenary at a joint session of the National Assembly marking the Silver Jubilee Of Nigeria’s 4th Republic.

President Tinubu’s assent of the National Anthem Bill 2024 coincided with the first anniversary of his administration, which began in May 2023.

“This morning, Mr President signed into an Act of Parliament, the newly passed National Anthem 2024,” Akpabio said on Wednesday.

Taking to his Twitter page to share his thoughts, Adekunle Gold wrote: “No one thought Timi Dakolo’s Great Nation makes a better anthem?”

In reaction, @Tyekooon opined; The lyrics are too deep for an unserious country, hence.

@xybox wrote; It would make a beautiful anthem. When these old meddling politicians have left this world, I hope the future legislators will denounce this colonial special number of theirs and adopt ‘Great Nation’.

@jachukwu wrote; If they were truly looking for an anthem that will steer up patriotism and love for the country it would have been that song.

@CarmillaXander; Absolutely yes, that song could make the least patriotic Nigerian stand up and go ‘sasageyo’.

@BFMPLUS said; Yes but it still carries the disputable and derogatory word: Trybe!! We should stop describing ourselves as tribal people. No whiteman ever allows himself to be called triibe.
