Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has appealed to residents to ignore the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) sit-at-home order to commemorate Biafra Day.
He made the call on Wednesday, May 29, ahead of May 30 which is a day set aside by IPOB/MASSOB annually to honour the fallen heroes who died fighting for the actualization of Biafra.
In a press statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the commissioner urged citizens of the state to disregard the three-day order and go about their lawful businesses without any fear of attack.
The police said IPOB and its affiliate milita arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), are making an empty threat as the command has positioned its men and officers at various strategic positions in readiness to respond to any breakdown of law and order.
The statement reads in part; “Security operatives drawn from the Police, Military, Civil Defense, Road Safety, Immigration, and Fire Service have been massively deployed to embark on confidence-building patrols and Operation Show of Force across the 27 LGAs of the state to ensure public safety.
“The Command, therefore, is using this medium to warn anybody intending to destabilize the improved peace and security in the state by attempting to enforce the illegal sit-at-home order to better have a rethink as anyone caught in the act will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
Danjuma enjoined the people of the state to be security conscious and swiftly report to the nearest police station, any suspicious person seen or clandestine activity observed within their vicinity.
