BREAKING: Kylian Mbappe’s Jersey Number At Real Madrid Emerges [VIDEO]—The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Kylian Mbappe likely jersey has been revealed after signing for Real Madrid.
This online newspaper gathered that Madrid announced the signing of French striker Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe signs a five-year deal as a free agent and details of his new contract have not been disclosed.
Mbappe is 25 years old and one of the world’s best players. However, it’s fair to point to the fact that he might play with a chip on his shoulder after failing to lead Paris Saint-Germain to continental success. In Madrid, he will join a talented attacking line with Vinicius and Bellingham, so Mbappe’s attacking talent will surely be very impressive to watch from now on.
This transfer saga had been going for the last five years, with PSG being able to keep Mbappe even when it looked like Real Madrid were going to secure a deal. Now it’s finally over. Mbappe is a Real Madrid player.
On June 3, Real Madrid announced that they had signed Kylian Mbappe on a five-year contract. Officially, it’s a free transfer: the forward was a free agent following the expiry of his PSG contract.
Of course, this deal still comes at a huge expense for the 15-time kings of Europe. According to BBC Sport, Mbappe’s Madrid contract is worth €15 million net per season, which works out at roughly €288,000 per week.
That’s a sizeable drop-off from his PSG earnings, but it’s understandable.
Mbappe’s base salary at the French champions was reportedly €75m net per year ($82.8m / £64.4m), excluding bonuses. According to reports upon the signing of his new contract in 2022, including from the New York Times and The Guardian, Mbappe’s new deal also earned him a €100m ($110.4m / £85.9m) signing bonus just for agreeing to stay at the club.
Madrid were never likely to get close to matching a weekly wage of more than €1.3m — indeed, given financial rules imposed by both UEFA and La Liga, they would not be able to — but it is believed that some of the shortfall in his new Madrid salary will be compensated for by a huge signing fee of around €150 million, which will be payable over the duration of his deal.
Madrid have not yet confirmed what number will adorn the back of Mbappe’s shirt. At PSG, he wore the No. 7, and he would likely want to wear the same in Spain to follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, one of his idols. However, Vinicius Junior occupies that jersey, and it seems very unlikely the club will ask him to give it up.
There is no incumbent No. 9 at Madrid, so that’s likely to be Mbappe’s jersey number in 2024/25. Diario AS reported the same back in March.
