Bandits demand N4 million ransom for abducted NYSC member

Bandits who kidnapped over eight National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) members have demanded the sum of N4 million as ransom for the release of one of them.

It was earlier reported that the armed group abducted the eight Corps members along a highway while on their way to orientation camp in Zamfara State last Friday.

The prospective corps members were said to be travelling with an Akwa Ibom Transport Company, AKTC bus from Uyo to Sokoto State, to take part in the mandatory National Service when the bandits attacked their vehicle.

The father of one of the kidnapped victims, Emmanuel Eket said he received a call from the bandits using his daughter’s phone, saying they have her in their custody.

He said that his daughter, Glory Thomas had been giving them updates on the latest development in the bandits’ camps through a telephone interview.

According to Edet, the bandits demanded a payment of N4 million to ensure her safe release.

“They called me with her number, demanding the sum of N4 million. They allowed me to speak with my daughter because I asked how they wanted us to pay and my daughter said we should contact the AKTC.

“Since that time, they have not called and I have not spoken with my daughter. I don’t know if they have released them but my daughter has not called me,” he added.

A military source who craved anonymity confirmed the kidnap, however disclosed that a rescue team was actively combing the forest to rescue the victims.
