A Nigerian man has cried out online about his ordeal at the hands of police officers that extorted him on June 6, 2023, in Ikate.
He said that he was driving to a site where he works around 9am and was stopped by a team of policemen who extorted him of $20,000 in Bitcoin.
The young man said they asked him to alight, which he did only for them to hop into his car and bundle him into their van where he was introduced to their superior officer.
Sharing his experience in a video trending online, he said they handcuffed him and began to rough-handle him when he wanted to defend himself. They forced him to put his password in his phone and checked his account, which was when they saw receipts of bank transactions.
The man said that they drove him to different stations and an EFCC office, and were threatening to him, so he was scared for his life. He said that at some point, they told him that for them to let him go, he would have to give them $20,000 in bitcoin, but he did not know how to do that.
The guy said that they checked his bank app and saw his balance of more than N2m. He said they asked him to transfer the money to someone that would trade his naira and give him the BTC equivalent.
After he was made to call people and did the transaction under coercion, they drove him round Lagos until the BTC dropped in their account, then he was dropped around Obalende.
